Tikri

Tikri is a demonstration of the Triple Underutilization Theory, Tikri, India.

Triple Under Utilisation Theory

The Triple Underutilization Problem, is a framing that Indians and perhaps the world at large underutilize: computers (including mobile phones), human resources (especially the poor) gratis and/or free AI models and services.

The solution being explored in the Theory is that greater partnership, collaboration and/or solidarity between economic and technological elites and the disadvantaged will increasingly solve for the problem articulated below.

The theory aims at maximizing the use of existing digital infrastructure and human capability often remains underused despite being widely available. This maximization of utility is towards human flourishing in all dimensions.

Most homes in Tikri do not possess even a single book outside text books. Using the theory above, we are demonstrating that those that don’t own books can directly leapfrog to publishing books.

This website and its associated repository is a reproducible digital asset that can be copied by others who wish to produce similar works with modest technological resources. A smartphone, intermittent internet access, and collaborative participation can together produce sophisticated speech artefacts that can be distributed and even sold globally.

The project also explores practical uses of Smartphones Gratis digital infrastructure (Git-based publishing) AI-assisted workflows for organising, describing, translating, and producing a book.

Repository Goals

  • Create a model GitHub repository with folder structure, files and access control configurations
  • Make it easy for authors to upload photos, write captions, edit sections and pages of the book like [front cover, back cover, title page, half title page, attribution page, dedication page, introduction, etc]
  • Code required to assemble the above markdown files and media files into a book in .epub and .pdf formats.
  • Decision infrastructure to decide on licensing and privacy aspects of the book.
  • Guidance on how to upload the book and sell it on platforms such as Amazon.
  • Guidance on how to make physical copies of the book

Types of books that can be considered by those using this toolkit

  • Lived experience of various persons and communities
  • Knowledge and information gathering and archival
